Prerequisites
Set up product recommendations widget in AfterShip Personalization
Add the smart upsell widget in Klaviyo emails

You should have an active Klaviyo account with the relevant pricing plan to set up email campaigns.
You should be on AfterShip Personalization’s Essentials or above plans to use the Klaviyo integration for email widget configuration.
Go to Smart upsell widgets in your AfterShip Personalization admin.
Find the Klaviyo tab and click Get started to enter the Klaviyo email integration dashboard.
Click Create widget to access the product recommendations widget editor to customize the widget displayed in your Klaviyo email campaign(s).
The AfterShip Personalization widget editor offers 3 main settings to configure the widget's style, display, and functionality that will translate into what customers will see in the emails triggered by Klaviyo.
The basic Settings that will determine which product recommendations will be shown in the emails. Under basic settings, you need to define
a. Recommendation rules: You can use Pre-made rules (default recommendation types) or set up Custom rules (upcoming feature) that will deploy defined product recommendations in Klaviyo emails when they meet the configured order, products or UTM conditions.
Custom rules are particularly important if you want to personalize widgets for specific Klaviyo email campaigns using UTM parameters as trigger conditions.
The custom rules can also be strategically used to display personalized product recommendations based on the browsing and buying behavior of the customers to whom the emails are sent.
b. Pin and exclude products: Set products that will always appear first in the emails when product recommendations are displayed and exclude products that will not be displayed as recommendations.
c. Installation code: This is the most critical step in this integration guide that will ensure that the product recommendations widget you are setting up gets displayed on the email you want to.
Once you are finished setting up the smart upsell widget for Klaviyo emails, copy the installation code from this section to add to the email where you want these recommendations to display.
d. Remove AfterShip branding to make your product recommendations widget more brand-consistent.
Move to the Display tab to configure the messaging and content display settings.
a. Widget title: Enter the title above the product recommendations in the Klaviyo emails.
b. Product content: Under the product content settings you can set up how the product images will look and what information you want displayed for the products suggested.
Image aspect ratio: An aspect ratio is a proportional relationship between an image's width and height. You can choose between the available options to choose the best option.
Product info: Select the checkbox for the information you want to display alongside recommended products and decide the chronological order in which they will be displayed below the product image by dragging and dropping that section up or below in the list.
Under the Styles tab, configure the appearance of your smart upsell widget to align it more with the emails' overall aesthetics.
You must copy the installation code of the smart upsell widget from the AfterShip Personalization admin to add the same in your Klaviyo emails. ( Refer to section A, point d )
You can create and set up one standardized widget in AfterShip Personalization and use the same for all your Klaviyo email campaigns or,
You can set up personalized widgets in AfterShip Personalization and use each for specific email campaigns in Klaviyo. The opportunities are endless.
Step 1: Copy the widget code
Scroll to the Installation in AfterShip Personalization Klaviyo widget editor section and click Copy code in the top right corner.
Step 2: Go to your Klaviyo email campaign list
Go to Campaigns in your Klaviyo admin.
Select the email where you want to include product recommendations or click Create campaign to set up a new email campaign.
Type in the basic information like name, draft date, campaign type (email), and tags. Click Continue
Configure the Audience settings as per your requirements.

Click Next.
Edit the email subject line, preview text, sender name, and email address.
Select a template from the list of saved templates or choose a new one from the library.
On the email template drag-and-drop editor, add a Text block from under the Content tab and place it where you want to show the product recommendations.
Step 3: Paste the widget code
Select Source code under Style settings of the Text block, paste the code you copied in Step 1 into the text block, and click Apply.
Step 4: Preview the block
Preview the block and ensure it matches your desired result. Adjust the block's color, border, or padding in the email editor as needed.
Step 5: Preview and test your email
Enable default tracking parameters that set and attach default parameters (e.g., utm_source=klaviyo) in the URL of your Klaviyo email messages or set up custom UTM parameters for each email campaign at message-level
You can customize your Klaviyo account’s global(default) tracking parameters and select values against each parameter yourself in Klaviyo’s Account settings, but they can be edited at the message level.
You can also set up custom metrics to be able to define these parameters for every email campaign individually. The email with custom tracking parameters enabled will use custom tracking parameters instead of the default tracking parameters in your Account Settings.
These parameters include utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_campaign, utm_term and utm_id to track traffic sources and campaign specifics.
For most UTM parameters, you can choose between a dynamic, static, or custom value. In addition, you can choose different default values for campaigns.
a. Dynamic values change based on what kind of message you send (e.g., sms and email, or flows and campaigns).
b. Static values remain the same for all messages, but you can choose a different static value for campaigns and flows.
c. Custom values are what you type in and will be used exactly as they appear in your UTM settings.
Copy these defined UTM parameters from the link in your Klaviyo email.
This is the structure of the URL in this email message with the UTM parameters.

Based on the email campaign of which you have copied the UTM parameters, set up custom rules with these UTM parameters as conditions to trigger the defined product recommendation type.
Example: If you've included a link to your store's Product page in your email campaign, using UTM parameters for tracking, you should set up a Product Page Upsell widget in AfterShip Personalization. Create custom rules using the UTM parameters from the email as triggers. This will enable you to show targeted product recommendations to customers who click the link in your email and visit your store's product page.
Go to your AfterShip Personalization admin and set up a product page smart upsell widget. You can also select one of the existing widgets if it meets your requirements.
On the Product page upsell widget editor, move to Product settings > Recommendation rules > Custom rules > Add rules.
Add a rule name, say, Klaviyo-Welcome email.
Add UTM based conditions, say, utm_source—contains any of—klaviyo and utm_medium—contains any of—email.
Select the corresponding action, i.e., the product recommendation type displayed on the product page when the conditions are matched. For Welcome emails, Bestsellers create a strong first impression. If the customer lands on your product page from the welcome email, they will be shown your store’s hot-selling products as recommendations.
